I am pleased to share my new Seminary Now course in partnership with Chris Hoklotubbe,

Indigenous Bible Interpretation.

Drawing from Reading the Bible on Turtle Island, this course explores what it means to read Scripture through Indigenous perspectives in North America. Together, we examine the intersections of Scripture, cultural traditions, hearts and minds, and creation, affirming the Creator's presence with Indigenous peoples since the beginning.

By engaging Indigenous histories and worldviews, we seek to celebrate the unique gifts Indigenous interpretation brings to the broader church and invite learners into a richer, more contextual reading of the Bible.

We're delighted to share that our new video course, Indigenous Bible Interpretation, is now streaming on Seminary Now.

Creator has always been present on Turtle Island.

In this course, we explore a holistic vision for Bible interpretation rooted in community wisdom and trust in Creator's guidance. Together, we'll consider how Indigenous perspectives open new pathways for engaging Scripture while remaining deeply rooted in the biblical story.

Throughout the course, you'll learn to:

  • Practice Turtle Island Hermeneutics

  • Interpret Scripture in the context of Indigenous experience

  • Understand creation as kin rather than resource

  • Discern the role of ancestors and dreams

  • Apply Jesus's Jubilee vision

  • Develop discernment regarding cultural practices

We invite you to join us as we discover how Indigenous wisdom can deepen the church's understanding of Scripture and God's work in the world.

Grace and peace,
